Introductions first!
Hi! My name is Hannah and I only live in the real world on a part time basis. The rest of my time is spent falling in love with the mayny fictional characters and worlds that have been created by a multitude of amazing authors across the world. If I get a spare moment then I also like to write and create my own worlds to explore too. If you are anything like me (I know I'm only the only one!) then I want you to know that I made this blog for you.
This is the place for you if you are...
A romantic idealist whose had a crush on several fictional characters during the course of your life;
A day-dreamer who spends your days imagining that you are exploring jungles, fighting monsters and finding ancient relics etc;
A traveller at heart who can easily be transported to a new place whilst reading;
All of the above;
And even if you're not any of these things, you are still welcome here! I made this place for everyone. So without further ado - pull up a chair, grab a snack (I always recommend sweets of any kind) and lets read! I wonder where we'll end up first.

'Stray Witch' by Eva Alton Review25/03/2021SPOILER WARNING - I tried really hard not to spoil this book for any potential reader but there may still be some things which can be considered to be spoilers so please read with caution. If you want to go into this without knowing anything about it, read it yourself and come back to read the post afterwards!
When I was 17, you would not catch me picking up any book that didn’t include some kind of magical or mythical elements. The world of the unknown? Ghouls, werewolves and vampires? YA fantasy novels with creatures of every description living in an underground society? Sign me up. I was hooked. I was obsessed with the vampire trend, a devoted follower of the ‘Edward vs Jacob’ debate and a hard-core fangirl of the television series ‘Supernatural’. It meant that my taste in books ranged from visionary to highly questionable. I mean it still does but less so than it used to. Nowadays, I don’t often opt for those kinds of stories, even though I am writing one myself (as a homage to my younger self). My reasoning has always been that I didn’t want to be influenced by anyone else’s stories or creations when writing my own but every time I saw ‘Stray Witch’ pop up on my Twitter, I found myself resisting the urge to buy it then and there. It was an itch that I was avoiding scratching. A thorn in my side that I wouldn’t pluck out. An obstacle in my path that I kept finding ways to walk around rather than face head-on. 'The Vintage Bookshop of Memories' by Elizabeth Holland Review
19/03/2021SPOILER WARNING - I tried really hard not to spoil this book for any potential reader but there may still be some things which can be considered to be spoilers so please read with caution. If you want to go into this blind, read it yourself and come back to read the post afterwards!
Let’s talk about the Vintage Bookshop of Memories, have you read it? It’s a story written by Elizabeth Holland about a young lady named Prue who, due to unfortunate circumstances, has to return to her hometown of Ivy Hatch in Somerset to tie up some loose ends and in doing so, makes some bold decisions and ends up learning more about herself and her family than she had ever anticipated. It’s a fairly short story consisting of 204 pages and that was something I really liked about it. My type (on paper) in books usually tends to drift more towards the slow burners but this time I wanted something different to be my next read. I wanted a book that was relaxing to read, with easy to follow plot points, lots of exposition and scene-setting. So I picked this up in the hope that I would find all of those things and be swept away fairly quickly. This book delivered on all of those things. |
